    How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication on Windows

    Set up authenticator app

    Download Microsoft Authenticator on your phone. Scan the QR code to link your account.

    Quick Tip

    Microsoft Authenticator can also store your passwords and auto-fill them on your phone.

    Save recovery codes

    Microsoft provides a recovery code — write it down and store it safely in case you lose your phone.

    Warning

    If you lose your phone and do not have recovery codes, you could be permanently locked out of your Microsoft account.

    Test the setup

    Sign out and sign back in. You should be prompted for a code from your authenticator app.
