Transferring photos from your phone to your computer is a great way to free up phone storage, create backups, and have your photos available on a larger screen for viewing and editing. There are several methods depending on what devices you have.
Method 1: USB cable (works with any combination). Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable (the same cable you use to charge your phone). On iPhone to Windows: your phone appears in File Explorer. Open it and navigate to the DCIM folder to find your photos. Copy and paste them to a folder on your computer. On iPhone to Mac: open the Photos app on your Mac — an import screen appears showing your phone's photos. Select the ones you want and click "Import."
On Android to Windows: your phone appears as a device in File Explorer. Open it and navigate to DCIM then Camera. Copy photos to your computer. On Android to Mac: download the "Android File Transfer" app on your Mac, connect your phone, and browse its files.
Method 2: Cloud services (automatic, no cable needed). iCloud Photos (iPhone): go to Settings then [your name] then iCloud then Photos then turn on iCloud Photos. Your photos upload automatically. On a Windows PC, install iCloud for Windows to access them, or go to icloud.com. On Mac, they appear in the Photos app automatically.
Google Photos (iPhone or Android): install the Google Photos app, sign in, and turn on backup. Your photos upload to your Google account. On your computer, go to photos.google.com to view and download them.
Method 3: AirDrop (iPhone to Mac only). On your iPhone, open the Photos app, select photos, tap the share icon, and tap the name of your Mac in the AirDrop section.
Method 4: Email or messaging. For small numbers of photos, you can email them to yourself or send them through a messaging app and download them on your computer. This is the slowest method but requires no setup.
