How to Use Lyft to Get a Ride

Request a ride with the Lyft app and get picked up wherever you are.

Download the Lyft app

Search for "Lyft" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android). Download it for free and open it.

Set up your account

Enter your phone number to get a verification code by text. Then add your name, email, and a payment method like a credit card or debit card.

Enter where you want to go

Type your destination in the "Where are you going?" box. You can type an address, a business name, or a landmark. Pick the correct option from the list.

Pick a ride and confirm

Lyft will show you ride options and prices. Standard is the regular option. Tap "Choose Lyft" or your preferred ride type, then tap "Confirm." A driver nearby will accept your request.

Wait for your driver

The app shows your driver's name, photo, car make, model, and license plate. Wait at your pickup location. You can watch the car approach on the map in real time.
