    Download and set up

    Download WhatsApp from the App Store or Google Play. Open it and verify your phone number with a text code. WhatsApp automatically finds contacts who also use the app.

    Send messages

    Tap the new message icon, select a contact, and type your message. Send photos by tapping the camera or paperclip icon. Send voice messages by holding the microphone button.

    Make voice and video calls

    Open a chat and tap the phone icon for voice calls or the camera icon for video calls. Calls use Wi-Fi or data — they're free, even internationally.

    Create group chats

    Tap New Chat > New Group. Select members, name the group, and add a photo. Great for family groups, friend circles, or planning events.

    Share photos and videos

    Tap the + or paperclip icon in a chat. Choose from camera, gallery, or documents. Photos send quickly and can be viewed by all group members.

    WhatsApp Web

    Use WhatsApp on your computer: visit web.whatsapp.com and scan the QR code with your phone. Type with a full keyboard and see messages on a bigger screen.

    Privacy settings

    Settings > Privacy. Control who sees your profile photo, last seen time, and status. Enable two-step verification for extra security. Your messages are end-to-end encrypted automatically.
