    How to Use WhatsApp

    Download and set up

    Send messages

    Tap the new message icon, select a contact, and type your message. Send photos by tapping the camera or paperclip icon. Send voice messages by holding the microphone button.

    Make voice and video calls

    Open a chat and tap the phone icon for voice calls or the camera icon for video calls. Calls use Wi-Fi or data — they're free, even internationally.

    Use WhatsApp on your computer: visit web.whatsapp.com and scan the QR code with your phone. Type with a full keyboard and see messages on a bigger screen.

    Privacy settings

    Settings > Privacy. Control who sees your profile photo, last seen time, and status. Enable two-step verification for extra security. Your messages are end-to-end encrypted automatically.
