What is Event Viewer?

Open Event Viewer
~15sSearch "Event Viewer" in the Start menu. Or press ⊞ Win+R, type "eventvwr.msc," and press Enter. The main window shows categories on the left.

Check for errors
~15sExpand Windows Logs > Application or System. Look for red circles (Errors) and yellow triangles (Warnings). Click an event to see details below. Recent errors around the time of a crash are most relevant.

Understanding entries
~15sLevel: Error (red) is a failure, Warning (yellow) is a potential issue, Information (blue) is routine. Source tells you which program caused it. The Description field explains what happened.

Search for help
~15sCopy the Event ID number and source name. Search online: "Event ID 1000 Application Error." You'll find specific solutions for that exact error. Microsoft's support pages often explain common event IDs.
