    Windows Power Plans Explained

Optimize your laptop's battery life or maximize performance with the right power settings.

    1

    Access power settings

    ~15s
Settings > System > Power & Battery (laptops) or Power (desktops). You can also right-click the battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options.
    2

    Power modes

    ~15s
Best power efficiency: maximizes battery life, reduces performance. Balanced: good compromise (recommended for most use). Best performance: maximum speed, uses more battery.
    3

    Screen timeout

    ~15s
Settings > System > Power > Screen and Sleep. Set screen to turn off after 5-10 minutes on battery. Set sleep after 15-30 minutes. These settings save significant battery.
    4

    Battery saver

    ~15s
Battery saver activates automatically at 20% (customizable). It reduces background activity, email sync, and screen brightness. Turn it on manually when you need to stretch battery life.
    5

    Tips for longer battery life

    ~15s
Lower screen brightness. Close apps you're not using. Disconnect Bluetooth if not in use. Use Wi-Fi instead of cellular (if applicable). Keep your laptop cool — heat drains batteries faster.
