How to Use Zoom for Video Calls

Set up Zoom and learn to join meetings, share your screen, and look your best on camera.

    1

    Download Zoom

    ~15s
Visit zoom.us and click "Download" at the bottom of the page. Install the Zoom app on your computer. On phones/tablets, search "Zoom" in your app store. Create a free account.
    2

    Join a meeting

    ~15s
Click the meeting link someone sent you (in email or text). Or open Zoom and click "Join" — enter the Meeting ID and passcode. Your camera and microphone turn on automatically.
    3

    Camera and microphone basics

    ~15s
Bottom-left icons control your microphone (mute/unmute) and camera (on/off). Mute yourself when not speaking to reduce background noise. The space bar is a quick mute toggle.
    4

    Gallery vs Speaker view

    ~15s
Gallery view shows everyone in a grid. Speaker view highlights whoever is talking. Switch between views using the View button in the top-right corner.
    5

    Share your screen

    ~15s
Click the green "Share Screen" button at the bottom. Choose what to share: your entire screen, a specific window, or just a browser tab. Click "Stop Share" when done.
    6

    Chat during meetings

    ~15s
Click "Chat" at the bottom to open the text chat panel. Send messages to everyone or privately to individuals. Great for sharing links or asking questions without interrupting.
    7

    Look good on camera

    ~15s
Face a window for natural light (don't sit with a window behind you). Position the camera at eye level. Use a plain background or Zoom's virtual backgrounds (Settings > Virtual Background).
    8

    Host your own meeting

    ~15s
Click "New Meeting" to start instantly, or "Schedule" to plan ahead. Copy the invitation link and send it to participants. Free accounts allow 40-minute group meetings.
