    How to Free Up Space on Your Android Phone

    Clear storage space on your Android device without losing photos or important data.

    Check storage usage

    Settings > Storage. See how much space is used by apps, photos, videos, and system files. Tap each category for details on what's using the most space.

    Use Google's cleanup tool

    Settings > Storage > Free Up Space. Or use the Files by Google app (free). It identifies junk files, duplicate photos, large files, and unused apps for easy removal.

    Clear app caches

    Settings > Apps > select an app > Storage > Clear Cache. Start with browsers, social media, and streaming apps — they cache the most data. This doesn't delete your account or settings.

    Back up and remove photos

    Open Google Photos > confirm backup is enabled. Once backed up, tap "Free up space" to remove local copies. Your photos stay in Google Photos and you can re-download them anytime.

    Uninstall unused apps

    Settings > Apps > sort by size or last used. Uninstall apps you haven't opened in months. Games are often the largest apps. You can always reinstall from the Play Store.
