    How to Download Apps on Your Android Phone

    The Google Play Store has millions of apps — here's how to find and install any app safely.

    Open the Google Play Store

    Tap the Play Store icon (a colorful triangle on a white background) on your home screen or app drawer. If you cannot find it, swipe up to open the app drawer and search for "Play Store."

    Search for an app

    Tap the search bar at the top and type the name of the app you want — for example, "WhatsApp," "Netflix," or "Zoom." Tap the Search key on your keyboard.

    Install a free app

    Tap the app in the results. Check the star rating (aim for 4 stars or above) and the number of downloads — more downloads usually means more trustworthy. Tap "Install." The app will download and appear on your home screen or app drawer.

    Quick Tip

    Only install apps from the official Google Play Store. Avoid installing apps from websites or text message links.

    Install a paid app

    Tap the price button. You will need to confirm payment using your Google account's linked payment method or Google Play balance.

    Update your apps

    Tap your profile photo in the top right > Manage apps & device > Updates available. Tap "Update all" to keep all your apps current. Updates fix security issues and add new features.

    Quick Tip

    You can turn on automatic updates by tapping Settings in the Play Store > Network preferences > Auto-update apps.

    Uninstall an app

    Press and hold the app icon on your home screen, then tap "Uninstall." Or go to Play Store > tap your profile photo > Manage apps & device > find the app > Uninstall.
