Search for "Google Translate" in the App Store or Google Play Store. Download it for free and open it.

At the top of the screen, choose the language you are translating from (like English) and the language you want to translate to (like Spanish). Then type a word or sentence in the text box. The translation appears instantly.

Tap the speaker icon next to any translation to hear how it is pronounced. This is very helpful when traveling.

Use the camera to translate signs and menus

Tap the camera icon. Point your phone at a sign, menu, or any text. Google Translate will replace the foreign text on your screen with English (or your chosen language) in real time.

Have a conversation

Tap the Conversation button (two microphones). Choose two languages. Then just talk — Google Translate will listen and translate between both languages automatically, so two people who speak different languages can have a conversation.

Download languages for offline use
