Getting Started with Siri on iPhone

Siri is your iPhone's voice assistant — learn how to use it to set reminders, make calls, ask questions, and more without touching your phone.

    1

    Activate Siri

    ~15s
On iOS 17 and later (including iOS 18), just say "Siri" — the "Hey" is no longer required. Or press and hold the Side button (or Home button on older iPhones). Wait for the Siri chime before speaking.
    2

    Enable hands-free Siri

    ~15s
Go to Settings > Siri > Talk to Siri and select "Always On." Now you can activate Siri hands-free at any time just by saying "Siri" without picking up your phone.

    3

    Try these voice commands

    ~18s
Some useful things to ask: "Siri, call [name]" — "Siri, text [name] I'm on my way" — "Siri, set an alarm for 7am" — "Siri, remind me to take my medication at 8pm" — "Siri, what's the weather today?" — "Siri, open Maps" — "Siri, turn on Bluetooth." Speak naturally and Siri will understand you.
    4

    If Siri doesn't understand you

    ~15s
Speak clearly and at a normal pace — not too fast. After speaking, wait for Siri to finish processing before saying anything else. If Siri keeps misunderstanding, try rephrasing your request or check that your microphone is not blocked by a case.
    5

    Siri and your privacy

    ~15s
In iOS 18, many Siri requests are processed on your device without being sent to Apple's servers. You can review and delete your Siri history at any time in Settings > Siri > Siri History.
